“I think we made a really good movie, I think Hugh Jackman is the coolest and nicest person that anyone could possibly ask for, and Zac was such an amazing, I guess, team member. Because we actually, literally had to be a team together because we really had to choreograph all the arial work and be a team together and rely on each other so much. So, he was a great partner to have!”
Zendaya’s “Something New (featuring Chris Brown)” appears at a new peak of #11 on the most recent Mediabase rhythmic airplay chart, which is based on the March 20-26 tracking week.
It stands a chance of going Top 10 on the next chart.
“Something New” received 391 spins on Sunday, which marked the first day of the March 27-April 2 tracking week. Up 7.7% from last Sunday’s count, the tally slots “Something New” at #9 on the building chart.
A definitive conclusion cannot be made based on a single day of airplay, but the Sunday spin count marks an encouraging start to the week for Zendaya’s single.
With Yo Gotti’s “Down In The DM” and The Chainsmokers’ “Roses (featuring ROZES)” both expected to fall out of the formal Top 10 this week — they were respectively #9 and #10 on this past week’s official chart but are down to #11 and #15 on the building chart for this week — two Top 10 slots should open up this week. Vying for those spots will be “Something New,” Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza,” and potentially Luke Nasty’s “Might Be,” Kevin Gates’ “2 Phones,” and The Weeknd’s “Acquainted.”
“Something New” starts the week with a lead — albeit definitely not an insurmountable one — over the other four songs.
— While “Something New” is still gaining ground at rhythmic (as well as urban; it was up four places to #35 on this past week’s chart), it looks to have peaked at the pop format.
The song fell from #27 to #28 on this week’s Mediabase pop airplay chart. More importantly, it suffered a 552 loss in weekly spins (-22%).
Based on Sunday airplay, it is down to #31 on the building chart for the current tracking week.
Presumably in recognition of the bleak reality, Republic no longer features “Something New” on its promotional list for the pop/Top 40 format.
If its upward pop journey is indeed over, “Something New” will have settled for a #27 peak. Zendaya’s breakthrough “Replay,” which was her only other pop radio chart entry, peaked at #19 in early 2014.

There are still two weeks to go before the all-star Finding Neverland: The Album (out June 9) arrives, but tracks like Kiesza’s “Stronger” and Christina Aguilera’s “Anywhere But Here” have already been made available with iTunes pre-orders of the Broadway musical tie-in LP.
The latest song to be released from the set is Zendaya’s “Neverland,” a sweeping ballad Matthew Morrison’s character J.M. Barrie sings in the production currently being staged at New York’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Like all the songs on Finding Neverland: The Album, this one was produced by the musical’s composer, Gary Barlow.
Zendaya’s rendition is available as an iTunes download as of today, and you can watch the lyric video for her take on “Neverland,” which Idolator is premiering, below.
